Dr. Bennett Isabella of the Dakota Dental Clinic was one of the Incisal Edge 40 Under 40 dentists in 2018. In Apple Valley, Minnesota he’s doing big things for U.S military veterans through a program, Smiles for Freedom.
The program was started by patients spreading through word of mouth that the office would help out veterans who needed dental work at no charge. Since the program launched in 2015, Dr. Isabella and the program as a whole have provided over $75,000 in free dental work to those military veterans in need. Some of the services that the office has provided are free x-rays, exams and a treatment plan.
“I wanted to give back to those who had sacrificed so much for us. I knew we could make a huge difference in a lot of people’s lives by providing this service,” said Dr. Isabella.
Since his Incisal Edge interview for his 40 Under 40 honor Dr. Isabella has been continuing his work helping veterans. Most recently Wendell Carrier, a veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War came in for fillings. Carrier also had been missing his front tooth for many years, so Dr. Isabella decided to help even more. He placed and restored a dental implant on Carrier’s central incisor at no charge.
“This is going to make me happy not just today, but for the rest of my life,” said Carrier after receiving treatment.
